From local bus service to regional group travel
Young Transportation began with a practical request: helping people get from a mill village outside Asheville to the 1933 World’s Fair in Chicago. That early trip sparked the idea to start a company in 1939 that would grow through scheduled bus service, charter transportation, tours, shuttles, and group travel.

A journey that began with one truck.
Young Transportation’s story began in 1933 when T. Ralph Young, Sr. converted one of his trucks to carry passengers from Asheville to the Chicago World’s Fair. What started as a single trip grew into more than 85 years of trusted group transportation.

1933
First passengers to the World’s Fair. T. Ralph Young, Sr. put seats in the back of a truck and made three trips to the Chicago World’s Fair and one to Niagara Falls.

1939
Asheville-Elk Mountain Bus Line begins. Regular scheduled service to Asheville began, operating as the Asheville-Elk Mountain Bus Line.

1975
Young incorporates. The company changed from Asheville-Elk Mountain Bus Line to T.R.Y., Inc., doing business as Young Transportation.

1982
Knoxville World’s Fair expansion. Young purchased 40 new buses to provide shuttle and charter service for the Knoxville, Tennessee World’s Fair.

1995
A turning point for Young Transportation. The opening of a new 21,500-square-foot facility marked a defining investment in the company’s future, creating new opportunities for growth and expansion.

Today
Charter, tour, receptive, and destination management. Young now operates over 50 vehicles throughout the United States and Canada, supported by more than 100 professionals.
